If you’ve been around electronics long enough, you know the humble perfboard. That green or brown board with hundreds of little holes – you poke components through, solder legs together underneath, and somehow make a circuit work.
For a one-off hobby project, perfboard is fine. But you’re not a hobbyist. You’re building devices that need to work every single time, in the hands of real customers. And that’s where perfboard quietly becomes your enemy.
Let’s give credit where it’s due. Perfboard is cheap. You can buy a sheet for a couple bucks. It’s easy to prototype with – no waiting for a factory to make a custom board. Just grab your iron and start soldering.
But here’s what perfboard does not do well:
Consistency – Every connection is hand-made. A shaky hand, a cold solder joint, a wire that touches its neighbor – you get one working unit, but try to make ten identical ones. Good luck.
Size – Perfboard forces you to spread things out. Your design ends up twice as large as it needs to be. Fit that inside a slim wearable device? Impossible.
Reliability – Wires can break, solder can crack over time. If your product moves, vibrates, or changes temperature, a perfboard prototype will likely fail within weeks.
High-speed signals – Try running a 5G signal through a mess of jumper wires on perfboard. It won’t just be bad – it won’t even start.
When you move from “does it work on my bench” to “can we sell a thousand of these” – that’s the line.
Real products need:
Consistent electrical performance
Small, reliable mechanical integration
Ability to pass EMC and safety tests
Heat dissipation that doesn’t rely on luck
Perfboard gives you none of those. A custom-printed circuit board does.
We don’t make perfboard. We make the real thing – tailored to your exact product.
Flexible PCBs – Your device bends? Our boards bend with it. No broken traces, no loose wires. Perfect for wearables, foldable devices, or tight spaces.
Rigid-flex boards – Mix the strength of a rigid board with the flexibility of a flex section. Great for cameras, medical tools, or anything with moving parts.
HDI high-frequency boards – Need tiny vias, fine lines, and signal integrity up to millimeter-wave? That’s our daily bread. Perfboard can’t even dream of this.
PCBA assembly – We don’t just make the bare board. We source components, solder them automatically, and run optical inspection on every single unit. Your board arrives ready to install – no hand-soldering required.
Switching from perfboard to a custom PCB might feel like an expense. But here’s what you’re actually buying:
Fewer field failures – No angry emails from customers whose device died after a week.
Lower assembly cost – Automated pick-and-place is cheaper than paying someone to hand-solder 50 jumpers.
Faster production – Once the design is locked, we can spin hundreds of boards in days, not weeks.
Room to miniaturize – You might even add extra features because now you have space.
We’re not saying you should skip testing. But instead of soldering on perfboard, you can send us your schematic and get a small batch of real PCBs in a few days. Test on those. Then scale.
We keep our setup costs reasonable for small runs. So you don’t need to compromise.
Send us your idea – a sketch, a schematic, or even an old perfboard photo. We’ll tell you the best way to turn it into a real, reliable custom circuit board. Flexible, rigid-flex, HDI, or PCBA – we’ve got you covered.
